A Poor Life?

"What is this life, if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.."

I work in a hospital. I have been working in one or the other hospital for a couple of years now.
I have seen great physicians, surgeons, healers, wielding their weapons to fight against the ills of humanity...

"No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows:"

I have seen ordinary people like you and me overcome the boundaries of hunger, sleep, and fatigue to save lives.. day after day.. everyday..

"No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:"

I have seen people use their immense talents to not make money, but to serve the people who actually need their help..

"No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:"

And yet, these are the very people who never have the time to turn back and look at the mind numbing impact they have had on the lives of so many people..

"No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:"

These are the people who miss out on the first steps that a baby born with a crippling malformation takes after she has faced the legendary kind cruelty of a surgeon's knife..

"No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began?"

These are the people who spend hours before a surgery to investigate and analyse the tiniest of details so a baby may be restored eyesight.. a wonder it may have never exoerienced before..
but fail to see the joy in those very eyes light up many a face. Not because they have no finer feelings in them.
But because there are more to heal.

"A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare."

independence!!

DO.

Thats what the Times Of India is advising us on this independence day.

60 years. You would think thats enough time for a nation of a billion people to have done and achieved whatever the country needs them to achieve...

Have heard about a million reasons for the inadequacies that India allegedly has.

Dont believe ANY of them.

India is the best. Dont make any excuses for it. Just be proud to be Indian. And DO love your country.

Let us then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate,
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labour and to wait.

Wake up every morning in the hope that i will get what i deserve today.
Go to bed at night, still awaiting that day.

Whats in a name?

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose,By any other name would smell as sweet."
--From Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)
Shakespeare
Read on the front page of the times today that bangalore and 12 other cities in Karnataka will be renamed to more "desi" versions, as proposed by various "literateurs" and local politicians(ha!). Remember a similar movement in Maharashtra a few years ago when bombay became mumbai and victoria terminus became chhatrapati shivaji terminus.
guess no one believes shakespeare any more.. why else would vivek oberoi become viveik oberoi and himesh call his debut flick a movviee??
i wonder if these so called literateurs checked wid mr. jumani(or is it jumaaani or jumaneee???)and company before renaming these cities. otherwise a few more millions of the taxpayers'(thats US) money will be spent on new road signs, railway stations, and of course the celebratory functions and parties by the people involved.
anyway, life goes on. sheikspearrr better eat his words and join the club.

Becks does a Ganguly!

Finally, after huffing and puffing their way to a place where they have to DESPERATELY beat ESTONIA(!!!) in order to still be in the race to qualify for euro 2008, the English football team and a certain Mr. McClaren have decided to recall David Beckham to the national side after he was unceremoniously booted out of not just the playing eleven but the entire English team on 11th august 2006.
What started off as a winning streak for England, with clear victories of 4-0, 5-0, and 1-0 against Greece, Andorra and Macedonia soon turned into a nightmare. Forcing an hitherto untested 3-5-2 formation on the team proved costly as they lost to Croatia and co. to reach the current state of affairs... and with that the tables turned on Steve McClaren... He is now under immense pressure from engerland's boisterous fans to deliver, or he stands to be kicked out... Hence the return to the former captain, in the hope that he can save them from further embarrassment...
Does that story ring a bell in the minds of those who follow Indian cricket?
The Saurav Ganguly- Greg Chappell saga has many parallels to the English story. Both extremely successful captains, in tandem with super supportive former coaches(John Wright, Sven Goran Erickson) built formidable teams, often under accusations of helping their friends stay in the team while better men waited in the wings... Both were dumped by the new coaches in insulting manners, and now, while one has completed a successful comeback, the other seems on the verge of the same...
Cheers to fallen heroes, rising phoenixes!

Weight Loss.

I have never lived away from home. This put me at a slight handicap today as i packed my bags in preparation to leave home for (at least) the next two years.
Should i pack all those shirts?? well these are new, so they must DEFINITELY go in, but those old ones were gifts, and have sentimental value, and that one is REALLY lucky for me, so can't leave that out...
And so it continued. I packed and I stuffed my bags to bursting point. I was pretty happy with my effort, until I spotted a small line on the air ticket,"
max baggage allowed-20 k.g.s". What? only 20 kgs? How am i supposed to pack two years worth of stuff into 20 kilos? Then began the slow and painful process of identifying what was actually essential, and what was just excess baggage.. things that you feel you cannot leave behind, but are best put away in boxes to be retrieved later if needed...
I guess that is pretty much the rule every where. When you move from one phase of your life to another, it's best to leave behind all the excess baggage and carry only the bare minimum... after all there will be new memories, new friends and a new life to be made.

And love is not the easy thing
The only baggage you can bring...

And love is not the easy thing....
The only baggage you can bring

Is all that you can't leave behind

Leave it behind

You've got to leave it behind

All that you fashion

All that you make

All that you build

All that you break
All that you measure
All that you steal
All this you can leave behind.
